Are you privileged?

I was a spectator for a conversation going on between 2 people discussing their issues pertaining to jobs, careers, business, politics which went so deep that it leads them to discuss their luck too and chances of success too.

Over their discussion, I could understand that they were graduates, holding iPhones, sitting a cool ventilated place, and in fact talking in English neatly dressed which showed some grooming and their background they would belong to.

I was astonished yet surprised because I couldn't match up to their topics of discussion to the privileges they carried(as mentioned in the second paragraph).

Little did they could realize that they belonged to the top 5% of India's population who were enjoying privileges when compared to the other 95% which are striving each hard each day to get those privileges.

But what is a privilege, It's a special right granted to a certain group of people, means that category of people who have a special status.

It's a strange phenomenon that came into existence during the British rule in India where people were divided into 2 classes ruling class and working class. When India got Independence that thought process got sustained into the minds of the people then the citizens pertaining to that class got a superior and undoubted privilege of getting quality education, better access to healthcare and lifestyle, and in fact, working in the corporate sector too. In case, you're even reading this article right now and have access to such lifestyle today somewhere you're also a part of that ruling class.

Majorly, India had been a part of the working-class, not denying the fact that the vast majority of people have worked their ass off to get to the position today which couldn't have been possible if they weren't linked to the ruling class in some way.

In India or in any economy the whole population gets divided into 4 classes presently Upper class and Upper Middle class which comes under the ruling class added with Middle Class and lower class which comes under the working class.

The ruling class is generally educated, are politicians, are bureaucrats belong to the ruling class whereas working class are those who pursue a diploma or vocational courses and do labor-intensive jobs like in the manufacturing sector, agriculture or in construction or daily wage professions too where no benchmark is defined or even people who work in our homes too.

But all the more we go deeper into it, we tend to see that each one of us has enough money and enough money to buy even more cars. How'd that be possible? As per economic times report in 2018, it estimated that there are only 22 cars per 1000 individuals which makes us understand that less than 3% of the population actually owns cars and when we talk about universities as per the 201 census report close to 8% people have ever graduated including 3 or 4 years degree programs in India.

Going deeper when we analyze our surroundings in terms of sustainability when Housing, Income, Education, and Transportation we can quickly understand the below facts

- If your family income is more than 5 LPA means you live in a house of 150 sq yd or more
- If you have more than one or more cars at home you can speak and understand English fluently
- If you have traveled abroad you must have been a highly educated person and most probably you have gone for a permanent residency only
- If you're using Jio as a network provider there is a 70% chance is that you're using a smartphone
- If you have a smartphone its unlikely that you haven't purchased anything online

try to fit in this analysis in your surroundings to know how much of the points are true to what extent.

If you qualify that congratulations you're on the top 5% (higher side) citizens who are having access to such privileges.

The deeper you go much uglier it gets and yet most of us don't acknowledge the privileges we have. Although our parents try to make us realize these privileges it's only when we become a parent would understand that the grass is greener on the other side.

Let's play a simple privilege game here.

If you have got a private education? then you're privileged

If you consume non-veg at least once or more than once in a week? then you're privileged

If you have workers at your home? You're privileged

If your stitch new clothes for your festival? you're privileged

If your home has an AC? then you're privileged.

Indeed, we tend to complain about things that we have access to but never be content or happy with it.

If you want to still see if you're indeed privileged or not try comparing your utensils to that of your home worker's no. of utensils, the greater the difference between it means that you're a believer, supporter, and follower of such class system too.

You know sometimes, we tend to be angry to see the privileges that people who are above our class get while looting the country and poor people, then imagine how angry the people in the class lower than you must be?
