Innovation and Innovators - A recipe unexplored !

Innovation is the need of the hour !

Innovation has lately but importantly become an innovation strategy in organizations. This virtue was often enjoyed by very industries.

Companies even set up departments to counter innovation and get ahead in the game.

It brings people closer to brand and create a unique relationship between the brand and its user.

The more deep you go in any substance that much of clarity you seek regarding things and more thought provoking it is.

In the present scenario innovation is a buzz word for people, departments, organizations, industries and governments too.

Estonia, a country in Europe became the first one to become fully digital country. Their entire citizenship process is digital and anyone from across the world can become a citizen of Estonia country and enjoy its privileges in setting up and register businesses.

An innovation by Motorola by launching Moto X mobile at changed the entire landscape of smartphones since then. Moto X for the first time had 2 GB of ram, 24 megapixels of camera and slim design which eventually became one of the highest selling smartphones of all times and then the rest brands followed the flow.

Although maintaining the innovation thing is not easy task to keep up for a long time which moto lost to its rivals.

But it enjoyed what it wanted making a steady comeback as a brand and shaking up the industry.

Innovative products which HUL implemented by their project Shakti did not only provided employment opportunities to rural women but also started manufacturing small sachets of products priced at Rs 1 and 2 other companies like P&G, ITC, Dabur and others followed the flow.

Innovations will definitely bring along a lot of benefits

- They get the first mover advantage
- They establish unique relationship with the user
- Unlocking the key to reduce costs
- Finding out a simpler way to do the same task differently
- Get a upper hand to beat the competition and the competitors

All said and done what do these innovators and innovations have in common and what are the characteristics that anyone can imply at scale?

Innovations although is perceived to be incorporated by passionate, purpose driven individuals but how to inculcate that experience in everyone?

As per my understanding 4 characteristics are common which are shared by almost any innovator.

- Curiosity
One has to be very much eager to explore new spaces and areas which needs to be applied for very specific problems. Because the present solutions are not enough that's why it needs a different approach and hence this eagerness and curiosity helps to become an innovator

- Networking
Great innovators are knowledge brokers and not knowledge hoarders. They tend to be working at the centre of the eco-systems and networks where information and insights flows. Accordingly generosity is an added competitive advantage.

- Comfort with Confusion
Working on new tasks often is pulling an arrow in darkness don't know where it will get hit. Working on something new and useful requires us to work in the realm of unknown. The results are satisfactory but when done continuously will create benchmark for the same.

- Rigor
Having a breakthrough idea is one set of it but seeing through it and how it actually works out to be in reality is a major concern. Experts say nearly 99% of things what we think turns out be illogical or not useful or completely not useful. But it is with time that you have got to implement and try it again and again to make it a version of that idea worth it.
