Why AAFAT by MX Player was my one of the best shows I watched this year !
Times Internet's Rs 1000 crore acquisition took the OOT market by storm only to make people speculate why such a valuation for just a music player app. Little did anyone knew MX Player had a larger user base than any other music app. Times Internet which is a digital business group of Bennet and Coleman which operates media companies like Times of India, Economic Times, TrulyMadly(a dating site) are operated under this group.
In order to retain its large userbase afloat, MX player didn't start to charge its content like Hotstar, Netflix, Prime Video, Eros Now and JioDigital. And opted for an ad-supported video streaming revenue model.
One of the first shows launched after the acquisition was AAFAT - Hindi meaning a problem. But its the first letters of the name of words of its 5 leading ladies starred in this show.
It's a story of an egoistic mom looking for a bride for her idiot son who was good for nothing but has a lot of confidence out of nothing. On ther other hand, they evaluate 5 girls for marriage and all these are headstrong women who want to live the way they want.
Its an insightful story revolving around a tech coder, poetess but a teacher, a confused widow, a healthy girl and a voice-over artist who doesn't wax.
Apart from running their lives on screen it also deals with numerous social issues like abusive relationship, too healthy girl stigma, unwaxing girl syndrome, privileges a widow loses when looking for a second marriage the characters go through captured beautifully and it portrayed them so strong that you will also start believing in yourself for no reason.
Although all these women face that groom who is looking for marriage none of them even considers him as an option because of the empty mindedness, misbehavior and no proper clarity on his own opinion. As the show focuses on those women with their social issues and also it showed how they have dealt with it successfully but not the groom's character.
The issues which mentioned above are not the real issues that we as a society should be careful to conclude on a decision but to a mindset like that of the groom's character should we be careful and maintain distance from it. Social issues can be accepted by broad-minded people but these character type issues will be even entertained by a narrow-minded person.
